Maldives Customs Service (MCS) has seized drugs worth over MVR one million that were being smuggled via neighboring India.
Customs via twitter revealed on Saturday, that the drugs worth MVR 1.93 million were seized from a 25-year-old who had arrived from Trivandrum, India. He was searched upon suspicious behavior and customs officials found two types of narcotics substances on him.
The substances tucked away inside his luggage had tested positive to heroin and cocaine.
While the drugs weighed 1.43kgs, customs have since handed the packages over to the Maldives Police Service (MPS), who has launched investigations into the case.
This comes at a time customs official also cracked down on a drug smuggling case on Friday, where drugs worth MVR one million was seized from a man who arrived from Sri Lanka.
This is third such case reported this month alone, with customs having seized drugs over MVR seven million, being smuggled to the country from Brazil, earlier this month as well.
