Nine individuals have been arrested and remanded for allegedly breaking into the council premises in Magoodhoo island, Faafu atoll.

Maldives Police Service revealed on Tuesday that all nine were arrested on a vessel travelling close to Magoodhoo island.

Arrested were two 23-year-olds, two 24-year-olds, a 26-year-old, a 32-year-old, a 33-year-old, a 36-year-old, and a 38-year-old.

Nilandhoo Magistrate Court has since remanded the individuals by five days.

A robbery was reported from the council in the early hours of Monday where robbers broke down the door and stole money from the safe after tying up the security guard of the building.

Citing the council, police said that although there was less cash inside the safe, they did not reveal an exact amount that was stolen.
