Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has hosted a banquet in honour of the visiting Maldivian delegation.

The banquet was hosted at the official residence of PM Wickremesinghe, “Temple Tree”.

While Speaker Nasheed embarked on the trip to Sri Lanka on an official visit upon the invitation of the Sri Lankan government on Friday, he was accompanied by Vice President Faisal Naseem, Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla, members of main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Parliamentary Group as well as cabinet ministers.

PM Wickremesinghe had also met and greeted the Maldives delegation that accompanied Nasheed during his trip.

Nasheed and Wickremesinghe held discussions before the banquet began.

During a press conference at Sri Lanka on Friday, Speaker Nasheed had said the Maldivian delegation, led by Vice President Faisal Naseem, is in Sri Lanka to assure that Maldives will stand alongside its neighbour, following the devastating Easter Sunday bombings there.

During his trip, Nasheed will also be meeting with Sri Lankan Speaker Karu Jayasuriya on Sunday. The delegation is set to conclude the official trip and return to Maldives on Sunday night.
