Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address the Maldives parliament during a sitting scheduled for 8 June, a Saturday.
The PM’s address was placed on Saturday’s agenda and the sitting is set to begin at 06:45 pm.
First item on the agenda is Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed welcoming the Indian PM to the Maldives. He is then scheduled to meet and greet the freshly sworn-in lawmakers.
He will then deliver an address at the sitting, followed by a message of appreciation by Nasheed.
This will be Modi's first trip abroad since his landslide re-election victory last month. While he is to arrive in the Maldives on June 8, he is to travel to neighboring Sri Lanka the next day.
The two visits are to reflect the priority India attaches to its neighborhood-first policy.
The parliament had passed to grant PM Modi’s request to give the speech at Parliament during a sitting on 29 May.
People’s Majlis grants international leaders the opportunity to address parliament sittings in order to give them the highest possible honor as a guest.
