Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has located a distressed vessel that was reported missing on Monday evening.
“Ufuriyaa” was reported missing a little past 5pm on Monday to MNDF’s Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC).
Upon receiving the missing report, MNDF had dispatched its Central Area Coast Guard Squadron Fast Interceptor Craft “Maafaiy” speedboat in search of the missing boat.
While MNDF’s Coast Guard Ship “Shaheed Ali” had also been active in the search for the boat, “Maafaiy” had found the vessel about five hours since it was reported missing, at around 10:30 pm.
“Ufuriyaa” was found distressed 31 nautical miles off Gan, Laamu. Its engine had been flooded.
Further, MNDF revealed that three Maldivians were onboard when they found the boat. The three were found in stable condition.
RaajjeMV understands that the distressed boat's owner is working to tow it to safety.
