The government has allocated MVR 8 million from India’s grant assistance to build ice plants in two islands.

Two 25-metric-ton ice plants are to be built in two islands with large fishing communities.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs statedthat this will help minimize post-harvest losses of fish, and ensure delivery of good quality fish to companies. The project includes training of operations and maintenance staff.

The ministry stated that the financial support has been provided from India’s grant assistance of USD 6.9 million (MVR 106 million) given to the Maldives government during the Indian external affairs minister’s visit in March 2019.

The aim of the grant assistance is to conduct high-impact socio-economic development projects across the country that will be managed by local authorities.
