ACC orders HDC to seek over MVR 39 mil owed by private companies
HDC leased MVR five billion to private companies

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of the Maldives has ordered Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to seek over MVR 39 million owed to the state through private companies.

A tweet posted by the commission on Thursday reads that HDC had leased five plots of land from Hulhumale to private companies, however, from the leasing date up until now, the companies have not settled the payment.

ACC further noted that they have ordered HDC to seek the money owed to the state and that they have taken on investigations into the land leasing case.

Further, ACC stated that the fine following delay in payment along with the initial bill reaches MVR 39،072،926 in total. The statement further reads that they had tried to seek the payment through the court as well.

The matter has been brought under the attention of the Attorney General’s Office as well as the Ministry of Finance as well.

The company has also been asked to reform the “no objection” policy that comes under the mortgage policy of the company and to make sure the company’s rights are protected and regulations are followed when making such contracts in the future.
