Maldives signs MoU with Cuba to enhance health cooperation
 
Maldives and Cuba also to schedule training programs for medical specialists
 
Both countries are to join hands to recruit doctors, develop health services as well as help fund tests
 
The signing took place as part of Minister Ameen’s ongoing trip to Geneva

A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between Maldives and Cuba, to enhance cooperation in the health sector.

The MoU was signed between the Maldives Ministry of Health and Cuba’s Ministry of Public Health and Minister Ameen signed on behalf of Maldives while Minister Dr. José Ángel Portal Miranda represented Cuba.

The signing took place as part of Minister Ameen’s ongoing trip to participate in the 72nd Session of the World Health Organization (WHO)'s World Health Assembly (WHA), which is being held in Geneva from 20th to 28th May.

Both countries are to join hands to recruit doctors, develop health services, help fund food and drug as well as micro-biological, chemical and environmental laboratory tests.

During the meeting followed by the signing, Minister Ameen had requested support and further opportunities from the Cuban government in further strengthening the health sector of the country. The minister went on to express his gratitude to the Cuban government for the extensive support extended within the years.

The Health Ministry revealed that discussions to schedule training programs for medical specialists were also held during the meeting.

Minister Ameen was accompanied by Permanent Representative of the Maldives Mission in Geneva, Dr. Hala Hameed and senior officials of the ministry and Maldives Mission in Geneva.
