India granted over MVR 14 million for the projects

Grant assistance for the projects was provided through the MVR 100 million granted to Maldives during Swaraj's visit

The government of India has granted financial support for several projects in outlying atolls of the Maldives.

The two projects are constructing an International Convention Center in Ukulhas island of Alif Alif atoll and to undertake projects at the Specialized Training School run by the Maldives Police Service (MPS) in Vaanee island of Dhaalu atoll.

While India granted MVR seven million for the police training projects, it granted MVR 7,806,900.00 for the construction of the convention center.

Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on Wednesday stated that the purpose of the Police Academy is to provide modern training to officers of the police force and to educate them with the necessary skills and knowledge they require to perform their duties, effectively.

Further, the Indian government provided financial support to construct the convention center with the aim to provide a venue to host conferences for the local council, guest house owners and business communities since there aren’t many such facilities in the atolls.

Foreign Ministry also revealed that the grant assistance for the projects was provided through the MVR 100 million granted to Maldives by the government of India during Indian External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj’s visit in March this year.

The grant assistance aims to conduct high-impact socio-economic development projects across the country, MFA revealed.
