Over MVR 1,500 was stolen in a robbery at the Eydhafushi post office, in Baa atoll.
Confirming this, Maldives Police Service (MPS) said the post office was broken into on Wednesday night, at around 8:30pm.
MVR 1,500 and other items were stolen in the robbery, said police.
Police are yet to make any arrests in connection to the break-in and theft.
MPS earlier revealed that their General Investigations Department had received a total of 71 theft cases in the first three months of the year. Out of the 71, 43 are to do with phone snatching on the streets.
Police further stated that the many cases of theft were reported from Henveiru district, where 22 cases were recorded. Most of these cases were reported at night, near the artificial beach region, swimming track and Malé industrial zone.
