Recent development projects helped MDP win in Addu: Mayor Sodiq
Mayor Sodiq said that a development project of MVR 5.4 billion has been earmarked for Addu City

Development projects recently set in motion by the government had helped the government coalition’s Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) ’win in Addu’, says Mayor Abdulla Sodiq.

Mayor Sodiq said that votes for MDP candidates contesting in Addu were direct support for the projects, which primarily include infrastructure developments, such as harbour and roads development.

In an interview with RaajjeMV, Sodiq said that a development project of MVR 5.4 billion has been earmarked for Addu City, and that the government is working to secure funds for it.

A week before the election, the government asked for expressions of interest for reclamation projects in 17 islands, including Maradhoo and Maradhoo-Feydhoo of Addu City.

In the parliamentary election held Satuday, MDP secured all seven seats in Addu: for North-Hithdhadhoo, South-Hithadhoo, Central-Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Feydhoo, Meedhoo, and Holhudhoo.

The party had won these seven seats in the local government council election in 2017 as well; Mayor Sodiq has held this position at the Addu City Council since the position was established in 2011.
