Urging all citizens to be more “environmentally conscious”, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has asked the people to do their part in ensuing his approach to maintain a “Jazeera” lifestyle.
President asked the people to maintain a "Jazeera" or island-like lifestyle as part of his initiative to build a more "Jazeera-like" nation with island-like development.
Speaking at the ceremony held in capital city Malé’s suburban extension Hulhumalé where the innovative water and sanitation system was inaugurated on Thursday.
Briefing the people on some of the plans that are being carried out to ensure that Hulhumalé residents have access to safe, sanitary and affordable drinking water, President Solih had urged to use renewable energy in providing clean drinking water.
Pitching the suggestion of collecting and storing rain water as it is an environmentally friendly method, President Solih also went on to assure the citizens that the water provided to households through Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) is of high quality, adding that their tap water is safe to drink.
The President’s Office revealed that citizens can “not only save water-related expenditure”, but can also be a part of the solution in regards to reducing plastic usage by drinking tap water instead of opting to buy plastic bottle and by storing rain water.
President Solih also reiterated his commitment to ensure all islands are provided with the basic necessities and services irrespective of the community’s size.
As work begins on Hulhumalé phase II area, the residents in the region will have access to safe and affordable drinking water, assured the President.
