Any attempts to stall or delay the parliamentary elections, slated for Saturday, is wholly unacceptable, says Transport Minister Aishath Nahula.
Minister Nahula said this in a tweet on Wednesday, in which she called on state authorities to ensure that the elections are held on the decided date.
Minister Nahula had also expressed her belief that the outcome of the election will be favourable to the government.
Reports of opposition parties attempting to delay the election surfaced this week, and the Elections Commission of Maldives also confirmed that they have received similar reports.
Commission president Ahmed Shareef has said that there is no legal basis on which the election may be delayed and it is highly unlikely that such a decision will be enforced.
The High Court this week opened for complaints regarding the parliamentary election, and has reportedly received seven such cases.
Their court’s decision on said seven cases will be released on Thursday afternoon.
