Some individuals have forgotten the previous administration's tyranny, says Vice President Faisal Naseem.
The VP took part in a campaign rally for Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s candidate for Hulhumalé constituency, Ali Niyaz, on Sunday night, and highlighted that a number of people had suffered due to former President Abdulla Yameen's autocratic rule.
Further noting that anyone "that ever did anything for reform was jailed," Naseem said Naseem said that "the entire country" was jailed during his tenure.
He also highlighted that millions were stolen from the state during Yameen's five-year rule.
Echoing incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's sentiments, the VP stated that Yameen "was the most tyrannical ruler in the country's history," and added that the people cannot be hoodwinked into believing otherwise.
VP Naseem also emphasized that the current administration "will not back down" from doing the right thing. He said that they will not pay heed to any criticism directed towards them, for doing the right thing.
Despite being a member of ruling coalition partner Jumhooee Party, he seems to indirectly criticizing party leader Qasim Ibrahim.
In addition, Naseem praised MDP's new policy 'Agenda 19,' and appealed to all to take the time to read it.
While JP is part of the ruling coalition, it has chosen to ally with the opposition 'Progressive Coalition' for the upcoming parliamentary elections, after MDP decided to compete in all 87 consistencies.
Qasim claims that this is against a coalition agreement, which MDP denies ever existed.
