JP aligned MPs obstructing the government: MP Musthafa

Members of the People’s Majlis are currently obstructing the work of the government, Thimarafushi MP Mohamed Musthafa has said.

MP Musthafa spoke to RaajjeTV on Wednesday and said that the current parliamentary composition has been blocking the efforts of the government.

The Thimarafushi representative said that the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) only has 18 members in parliament.

Musthafa blamed the Jumhooree Party, MDP’s coalition partner in the government, for said obstruction, adding that it will only worsen with time.

Musthafa, who recently signed on with MDP, said that the including the Jumhooree Party in the coalition was a ‘mistake’.

Despite having a joint parliamentary group, which effectively forms a bloc of MPs aligned with parties in the government coalition, MP Musthafa says the Jumhooree Party does not support the government.
