The government coalition’s Adhaalath Party has announced its decision to support four candidates from the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), its coalition partner.
Party leader Imran Abdulla said on Sunday that it will be officially endorsing MDP’s candidates for Hoarafushi, Kendhikolhudhoo, Alifushi, and Faresmaathoda.
Imran, currently Minister of Home Affairs as well, spoke in support of MDP’s parliamentary agenda.
MDP has welcomed the endorsement, and in a statement before Minister Imran’s endorsement, said that it will be supporting Adhaalath Party candidates for Nilandhoo and Mahibadhoo constituencies.

Before this, MDP leader Mohamed Nasheed said that the party would concede four constituencies to Adhaalath if their candidates agree.
After discussion, the party announced that none of MDP’s candidates agreed to give up their tickets, however, on Mahibadhoo constituency candidate Ali Ahmed announced decision to withdraw candidacy on Sunday.
The parliamentary elections are scheduled for April 6th.
