Main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has received the majority of Felidhoo island council in Vaavu atoll, an MDP activist in the island has revealed.
MDP received the island council’s majority following a former opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) member and council President, Ali Ismail having signed onto the ruling party.
The council comprises of three members: President Ismail, Vice President and PPM member Ali Rasheed and MDP member Ali Naeem.
This is the first time in the island’s history that the council has had MDP majority.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had joined the ceremony in which the council President had signed onto MDP.
