President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has on Wednesday appointed Ismail Habeeb as member of the Elections Commission.
The official appointment was made at a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Wednesday afternoon.
Habeeb had taken oath of office in front of the President and Supreme Court Judge Abdul Ghani Mohamed.
Parliament had on the 6th of March approved to appoint Habeeb for a second term.
He had received 58 votes during the Parliament sitting. Habeeb’s term ended on Wednesday following which he was re-appointed.
The committee on independent institutions had interviewed 16 candidates for the seat, and gave top marks to Habeeb who had received 90.28%.
The only other candidate who received a passing grade is Ahmed Moosa, who received 75.57%.
