The Malé City Council has announced plans to develop the fishermen’s park in capital city Malé to be able to accommodate cruise tourism.

Deputy Mayor Shamaau Shareef told RaajjeMV on Thursday that there is currently no efficient means to accommodate tourists at the location, ‘Masveringe Park’ as its locally known is one of the larger public spaces in Malé.

Shareef said that the council intends the location to be developed with ‘public toilets and other services available’.

The Maldives received 1.4 million tourists last year and the governments has set a target at 1.5 million for 2019.
