Elections Commission member Ismail Habeeb, who is vying for a second term, has received the top score from the parliamentary committee reviewing the candidates' applications.
Habeeb received 90.28 percent, significantly higher than second top scorer Ahmed Moosa, who received 75 percent committee approval.
A total of 16 people applied, including former commission member Ali Mohamed, who received 68 percent from the committee.
Habeeb’s term as a commission member expires on 13th March, having been appointed on that date in 2014. The electoral oversight body is comprised of five members appointed by the parliament.
The Elections Commission is currently organising the parliamentary elections, slated for April 6th.
