Germany has always been a key tourism market in the Maldives, with tourist arrivals amongst the highest from Europe, says newly appointed Ambassador of Maldives to the Federal Republic of Germany, Ahmed Latheef.

Ambassador Latheef made this assertion during the ceremony held to present his Letters of Credence to the German President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin, Germany on Thursday morning.

Highlighting that the Maldives attaches utmost importance to its relations with Germany and appreciates the continued support and co-operation from the country, Ambassador Latheef had assured President Steinmeier of the commitment of the Maldives government and people to further enhance the existing relations between both countries.

During the meeting after the ceremony, German President congratulated Ambassador Latheef on the commencement of his term and expressed his “sincere” hope that the bilateral relations between Maldives and Germany will be strengthened.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Maldives and Germany on the 5th of July 1966, Ambassador Latheef is the second resident Ambassador accredited to Germany from the Maldives.

The ceremony held in Berlin was attended by Ambassador Latheef’s spouse Fazeena Ahmed Didi, Deputy Ambassador Mohamed Jinah, Minister Counsellor Shiruzimath Sameer and Second Secretary Hussain Jahhaz of the Maldivian Embassy in Germany.
