The government of Maldives has urged India and Pakistan to exercise “utmost” restraint and to preserve stability, peace and security in the region.
Following the terrorist attack on CRPF personnel in Pulwama, State of Jammu and Kashmir on 14 February, Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement expressing the government’s concern.
Stating that Maldives is “deeply” concerned about the growing tension between India and Pakistan, the foreign ministry stressed on the importance of seeking a “speedy” resolution to the current crisis, through dialogue and diplomacy.
Condemning terrorism in all its forms “resolutely” and “unequivocally”, the ministry stated that the government is fully committed to the fight against terrorism.
It further stated that Maldives will continue to work closely with the international community to eliminate the global menace of terrorism, especially with its south Asian neighbors.
The ministry also underlined the urgency of states taking meaningful action against terrorist groups operating in their soil.
