The Elections Commission of the Maldives says it has rejected eight applications for candidacy in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Commission president Ahmed Shareef told a press conference on Saturday that they accepted the remaining 395 applications.
The 395 candidates are contesting for 87 constituencies in the People’s Majlis. 264,589 people are registered to vote in the upcoming ballots, slated for April 6th.
Shareef said that the commission will be setting up 507 polling stations: 82 for migrant voters in Malé, 59 for constituencies in Malé, 306 in atolls and cities, 39 at tourist resorts, 12 outside the country, five at detention facilities, and four in industrial areas.
