Maldives Media Council is to elect a new member in March, to fill a vacant seat.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the election will be held on the 2^nd of March, a Saturday, and voting will take place from 2pm to 3pm at the Ministry premises.

The election has been scheduled following the term of a council member representing the media having come to an end in early February. RaajjeTV’s News Director Ali Yoosuf’s term had ended on the 5^th of February.

Two individuals had applied for membership when the council opened opportunity to apply on the 2^nd of February.

They are Managing Editor at Avas Online, Ahmed Naaif and Journalist at Noonu Info, Ahmed Naushad.

Those wishing to become members must be ones who do not already represented any media in the council. Registration period for voting opens on 25, 26 and 27 February. The registration forms will be available through the Ministry.

The council comprises of eight members from media and seven representing the public who have a term of two years.
