Islands in Kaafu and Meemu atoll are to experience heavy rain this afternoon, the Maldives Meteorological Services (MET Office) has said.

MET Office said on Wednesday that islands in these atolls should expect heavy rain and thunderstorms, with winds speeds of 40 miles per hour. 

The alert stands until 16:00 on Wednesday.

MET Office has asked everyone, especially those travelling by sea, to take necessary safety measures.
