Maldives' President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has sent felicitations to the newly sworn-in King of Malaysia, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

Following the Sultan’s ascension to the throne on Thursday, President Solih sent a congratulatory message on behalf of his government and the people of Maldives.

Expressing his optimism that King Abdullah’s reign will witness “additional strengthening” of the already close bonds of friendship between Maldives and Malaysia, President Solih added his sincere hope that the enhanced collaboration between the two governments will herald a positive chapter in the bilateral relations between both countries, in all spheres of engagement.

“I wish your Majesty and Your Majesty’s subjects good health and prosperity, and good fortune in all endeavors” reads the President’s message.

King Abdulla, 59, took oath of office as Malaysia’s 16th king in a ceremony at the National Palace on Thursday and is followed by his predecessor Sultan Muhammad V’s resignation in early January.
