A man has been found dead in the lagoon near the fruit market in capital city Malé.
The Maldives Police Service said that the incident was reported to them at 6:08am on Wednesday.
The police have revealed that the man is an Indian national, but has not revealed any further information at the time of publishing.
The police are investigating the case and say they will update the press on further findings.
Malé's market area is heavily populated during the day but dimly lit at night.
