Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has announced the decision to recount the ballots of two constituencies, from its nation-wide primary election held last Friday.
Chairperson of the party's elections committee, Mohamed Ibrahim Manik said that the decision was made on Sunday following complaints received regarding the primary election.
As such, the complaints committee has decided to recount the ballot of two constituencies; Holhudhoo and Thinadhoo-South constituencies.
While the ballot box kept in Holhudhoo constituency has been brought to capital Malé for recounting, committee officials are to head to Thinadhoo to recount the ballots there.
Noting that there was only a difference of two votes between the two that contested for the constituency, MDP said the officials that will travel to Thinadhoo- committee chair Manik and complaints committee member Furahani Shuaib Ali- on Monday.
In addition, the committee has decided against investigating the complaints submitted regarding Fuvahmulah-South constituency ballots.
48,777 individuals, out of 78,638 of those eligible, vote in MDP's internal elections on Friday. The party is contesting in 86 constituencies in April's parliamentary elections. While it had initially decided on contesting in all 87 constituencies, there were no applicants for Nilandhoo constituency.
