Ministers representing ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in the government will also be acting as officials at the party’s primaries to be held this Friday.
MDP revealed via a statement on Saturday that there are a few things that need extra attention by the election committee for the approaching primaries.
As such, the committee has decided to include ministers, deputies and minister of states as well as high-ranking politicians within the primary process.
While the party has given tickets to ten individuals without holding a primary, MDP said that those individuals will also be actively involved near ballot boxes throughout the primaries.
219 ballot boxes are to be placed during the MDP primaries scheduled for 18th January.
So far, the party has received 636 forms from individuals interested to become officials and 1,192 forms from those interested to become observers of the primaries.
While the party has kick-started work to hold their primaries, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as well as party leader and former President Mohamed Nasheed have been attending campaign launching events, with the latter running for Central-Mahchangoalhi constituency.
