‘Asset Recovery’ commission investigating MMPRC embezzlement

Embezzlement through the MMPRC has been one of the biggest corruption scandals in Maldivian history

The commission announced this through a tweet on Thursday

The ‘Presidential Commission on Corruption and Asset Recovery’ has begun investigating embezzlement out of the state-run Maldives Marketing Public Relations Corporation (MMRPC).

The commission announced this through a tweet on Thursday, having earlier this week asked the public to come forward with any information that could assist them in their investigations.

Embezzlement through the MMPRC, which was in 2015 given authority to receive payments for island and lagoon leases, has been one of the biggest corruption scandals in Maldivian history.

The Anti-Corruption Commission has said that the amount embezzled through the company amounts to about MVR 1.4 billion.
