President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih extends condolences following the passing of pioneer local publisher Ali Hussain.
President Solih met with Hussain’s family at the Maafannu cemetery on Wednesday evening, at his burial.
Hussain, aged 82 years, had not been in good health before his passing on Wednesday morning, reports his employees.
Hussain, having begun his civil service career during the administration of President Ibrahim Nasir, got into publishing 53 years ago.
He had introduced innovation as well as modern technology into the industry since beginning his publishing career.
Also the founder of Novelty Printers and Publisher, Hussain was one of the leading publishers in the country and also served at the government publishers previously.
Moreover, Hussain received an Award of Recognition in 1979 for his services in developing the publishing sector. Hussain was also the recipient of Award of Honor in the same area in 2003 as well as the Award for Outstanding Service to the Public on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Maldives’ independence.
Some of Hussain’s contributions to Maldives literature and history include “Dhuththanaai Ivunu Aduge Handhaan Huri Bai” and the famed “Dhivehi Digest”.
