Discussions are yet to begin on re-investigating the explosion aboard the Presidential speedboat during former President Abdulla Yameen’s administration, reveals Prosecutor General Aishath Bisham.

Acting Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Hameed on Friday revealed his intentions to begin discussions into re-opening the case at a time when two videos regarding the incident are circulating on social media.

Hameed said that the police service will be re-opening the investigation into the blast if they are given the green light by the PG, and if not, Hameed said he will wait for the judiciary to give the go-ahead.

However, RaajjeMV understands that authorities are yet to hold discussions with PG Bisham.

The two videos in question, are the raw footage from the President’s Office archives, and the one that the office released at the time of the incident back in 2015, which showed flames following the blast onboard the speedboat. The raw footage however, shows no trace of flames.

At a press conference where he resigned from the opposition Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM), Yameen's former spokesperson Ibrahim Muaz Ali said that Yameen had switched seats with his wife, former First Lady Fathmath Ibrahim, before the explosion. He also claimed that he did not see any fire after the explosion and was surprised to see flames come out of the speedboat in the video publicized by the investigative commission led by then Home Minister Umar Naseer.

The explosion occured on 28 September 2015, as the former first couple were returning to capital city Male’ after concluding their Hajj pilgrimage. The incident left the former first lady injured. Yameen would later claim that it had been an assassination attempt by his Vice President, Ahmed Adeeb.
