Elections Commission registers jailed ex-VP's political party
Registration documents were handed over to the party on Thursday.

Maldives Third-Way Democrats has been officially registered as a political party by the Elections Commission (EC).
Registration documents were handed over to the party on Thursday.
EC confirmed this via twitter.
MTD held its inaugural assembly on Monday, where they passed party procedures, logos and colours.
11 members were also elected to the party’s interim governing council, at the assembly.
The first individual to sign to MTD was former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb. While he is serving a 33-year jail sentence on multiple counts of corruption and terrorism, he was transferred to house arrest earlier this month following a surgery.
The party has been officially registered 21 days after being given the go ahead to carry on with the procedures to form a party, submitting 3,333 forms to the Elections Commission.
With the addition of MTD, there are currently seven political parties in the country; Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Jumhooree Party (JP), Adhaalath Party (AP), Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP).
Former President Abdulla Yameen is working to form a new political party as well.
