Ali Khalid has been appointed to the post of Managing Director of state media, Public Service Media (PSM).

Khalid was appointed by the Maldives Privatization and Corporatization Board on Monday.

He previously served as Chief Communication Officer at the President’s Office during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen.

Before Yameen amended the Public Service Media Act, the People’s Majlis used to appoint members to the PSM Board. However, the amendment had given the Privatization and Corporatization Board the power to appoint members to the state media without Parliament approval.

Khalid had also held the position chairman of the state Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) during Yameen’s administration and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Television Maldives during President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s administration from 2006 to 2008.
