Prominent religious lecturer Sheikh Ilyas Hussain has called on opposition Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) to respect the decision of the people and stop trying to create disorder.
Ilyas, also a senior member of the Adhaalath Party, one of the coalition government’s parties, made this assertion via twitter on Saturday.
His tweet comes amid serial protests by the opposition party, calling to overthrow the current administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Ilyas wrote that the citizens have said no to the previous government which was known to have been disloyal to state funds, the monies of the citizens. He further urged the opposition party to accept defeat and respect the people’s decision.
In his tweet, the lecturer further urged to amend their ways and return to the path of Allah.
It is notable that PPM supporters and activists have been taking to the streets since former President and their leader Abdulla Yameen lost his bid for re-election in the September polls. They have been voicing their disapproval for the administration of President Solih, as well as the coalition parties. As such, some opposition activists continue pinning accusations of theft among many others on the current administration.
