A Sri Lankan fishing crew has been arrested for operating in Maldives’ economic zone, the Maldives National Defence Force says.

The ‘Oshadi 1’ was caught and its six-member crew were apprehended 42 nautical miles off of Gadhdhoo island in the southern Gaafu Dhaal atoll.

The crew were brought into custody at about 16:30 on Wednesday after having been reported by a Maldivian fishing vessel.

The crew were transferred to the custody of the Maldives Police Service at 23:40 on Wednesday.
