Maldives Police Service (MPS) has on Wednesday appointed Chief Inspector of Police Izmia Zahir as Police Spokesperson.
Acting Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed announced the appointment via twitter on Wednesday.
This is the first time a female inspector has been appointed to the post.
In the tweet, Police Commissioner Hameed revealed that Chief Inspector Izmia is a graduate of the Singapore National Police Academy. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Peace and Conflict studies.
Hameed further wrote that MPS intends to engage with media and the public in “more positive ways”.

Izmia is the daughter of former parliament Speaker Ahmed Zahir and sibling of former High Court Judge Dr. Azmiralda Zahir.
