MDP intends to increase party EC registration to 50,000 before 2019
According to the commission the party only has 29,000 members

The Maldivian Democratic Party aims to increase its official party member count at the Elections Commission to 50,000 before the year’s end, a national assembly member has said.
Ibrahim Waheed, the national assembly representative for the Nolhivaram constituency, said that this during an interview to RaajjeTV on Sunday night, adding that according to the commission the party only has 29,000 members.
Waheed said that while this count may have been true when it was revealed, in November this year, several members have signed on to the party since.
Waheed said that given the upcoming primary elections, the party now has 79,000 members on their registry.
The national assembly member said that the names of new members and ones who had previously not been registered with the Elections Commission will be forwarded within the week.
