The Elections Commission has announced 6th April 2019 as the date to hold the 2019 Parliamentary Elections.

Elections Commissioner Ahmed Shareef stated that they have not yet decided on a date to open a window to submit bids to contest. However, the commission has set the 28th of January as the temporary date for contestants to submit their bids.

Shareef also stated that changes will be brought to the boundaries set for some election procedures, with the commission having filed a constitutional case at the High Court regarding constituencies to which the court is to respond on Monday.

The constitutional case is regarding Maradhoo and Feydhoo constituencies of Addu, reveals Shareef.

While EC has announced that they will be accepting candidacies in January, some political parties have already selected candidates to represent them in the Election.
