President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has on Wednesday evening, arrived in Gemanafushi island of Gaaf Alif atoll to attend the official function being held in the island to mark this year’s Fisherman’s Day.
While President Solih departed this afternoon, he will be returning to capital city Male’ on Thursday morning.
President Solih was welcomed by Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Zaha Waheed and MP representing the island in Parliament, Jameel Usman.

Many island residents had gathered to welcome the President, who is visiting the island for the first time since assuming office in November.
National Fishermen’s Day is celebrated annually in the Maldives in December to celebrate and honor local fishermen and the industry, which plays a vital role in the country’s economy alongside Tourism.
