Three more names of individuals to be approved as ambassadors have been submitted for Parliament approval.
The additional three names submitted are to be appointed as ambassadors to China, Thailand and Saudi Arabia.
They are:
- Mohamed Jinah as Ambassador to Thailand,
- Mohamed Khaleel as Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and
- Aishath Azeema as Ambassador to China.
Earlier on December 10, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih proposed eight people for the positions of ambassadors to various countries. They have since been approved by the Committee on National Security, and the additional three names have been forwarded to the committee.
Article 115 (l) of the Maldives Constitution gives the President power to “appoint members of diplomatic missions to foreign countries and international organizations in consultation with the People’s Majlis (Parliament)”.
