Masthoor Husnee has been appointed as a member to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

Husnee, a lawyer, was appointed at a special ceremony held at the President’s Office on Wednesday morning.

Husnee took his oath infront of Supreme Court Judge Abdulla Areef and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih presented him with his letter of appointment.

The appointment was made under Article 158 (h) of the Maldives’ Constitution, and Article 3 (8) of the Judicial Service Act, both of which states that the JSC shall consist of a person appointed by the President.

Husnee, who previously served at the Attorney General’s office, was active in the joint coalition’s legal team to maintain the validity of the September Election as well.

The Judicial Service Commission was established under the Constitution of the Maldives which has the power to appoint judges and investigate them.
