Authentic Islamic knowledge must be instilled in the hearts of young children, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

In an address publicized on the occasion of the anniversary of the day Maldives embraced Islam, President Solih called upon all educational institutions, teachers and Islamic scholars to do so in order to guide them to the right path as well as to defend them from making the wrong life choices.

The President extended his greetings and well wishes to his people on the occasion.

Noting that the foundation of the unity among Maldivians was observed due to their firm Islamic faith, President Solih stated that Islam is based on peace, kindness, forgiveness and unity.

Encouraging all citizens to promote the true message of Islam, the President highlighted that the main shield against foreign influences in the past was our strong adherence to Islamic ways.

President Solih has addressed this issue at a time religious extremism is perceived to have become a growing issue in the country, with some religious extremists forcing their beliefs on everyone around them. This has led to the separation and chaos within many families and youth.
