Members of the government and public have on Saturday begun the ‘Saafu Raajje’ program, a clean up initiative in capital city Malé.
The program was launched at an event held at the Turf Ground in Maafannu ward of Malé by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Vice President Faisal Naseem, several cabinet ministers, and former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom attended the launching ceremony.
Saturday’s clean-up was carried out from 07:30 AM to 10:3 AM and the Ministry of Environment said that more clean-ups will be held.
The ministry has said that the program is aimed at developing a sense of responsibility to keep the capital city clean and manage waste.
A nation-wide serial clean-up initiative is one of President Solih’s first 100-day pledges.
