Transport Authority eases restrictions on transporting goods in Male'
The new change is effective from Wednesday onward
The change will be implemented until the 13th of January
Previous amendments allowed goods to be transported between 6pm to 6am

Transport Authority has brought changes to the schedule in which goods and cargo can be delivered in capital city Male’.

The authority stated that, from Wednesday onwards, perishable goods can be transported in Male' for 24 hours a day and the transport of cargo will be allowed between 3pm and 6am everyday.

Noting that the change was brought due to complaints from locals, the authority stated that the new schedule will be followed until 13th January 2019.

In April, former President Abdulla Yameen's administration imposed time restrictions on the transportation of goods in Malé. Since then, businesses were restricted to transporting goods to between 6pm an 6am. The limit applied to cargo supply to wholesalers and retailers, as well as the transport of construction material. However, gas deliveries were allowed from 8:30am to 11am, in addition to the night time schedule.

Businessmen and locals have raised concerns over the restricted schedule. It is expected that the change made by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration will now make it easier to transport goods in the capital city.
