The correctional service has allowed hospitalized former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb to be transferred to house arrest.
RaajjeMV understands that authorities made the decision on Tuesday to comply with doctors’ recommendation for Adeeb to be under his family’s care.
Adeeb is serving a 33-year prison sentence on multiple counts of corruption and terrorism for his involvement in the attempted assassination of President Abdulla Yameen and the MMPRC embezzlement scandal.
He developed various health issues after his imprisonment, including kidney stones, internal cysts, and glaucoma.
On November 9, Adeeb was taken to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital for emergency medical treatment and has undergone a laser treatment to dissolve stones that had moved to his ureter. Although the treatment was successful, he developed an infection after a stent was placed inside his ureter.
After he was hospitalized, the human rights commission urged the correctional service to facilitate his immediate transfer to house arrest.
