The MP, who was elected to Parliament through a Jumhooree Party (JP) ticket, had later signed onto former ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM). Back then, Abdulla had left PPM over a dispute after he voiced support for the no confidence motion filed against former Speaker of Parliament Abdulla Maseeh.

Following this, an Anti-Defection bill was passed by Parliament following a motion submitted by the then-ruling party to ban floor crossing, after which MP Abdulla had been unseated from Parliament by the Elections Commission.

Along with MP Abdulla, the commission had unseated 11 other then opposition-aligned lawmakers, who has since been reinstated.

While MP Abdulla has signed onto MDP, he Is yet to announce whether or not he will be running for a seat in the upcoming Parliamentary Election.
