Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has been sworn in as Maldives' seventh President.
Solih's swearing-in ceremony took place at the Galolhu National Stadium on Saturday evening during a Parliament sitting. Following his inauguration, Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) welcomed the new president with a 21-gun salute.
Vice President-elect Faisal Naseem also took oath of office on Saturday evening.
Former Presidents Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Mohamed Nasheed and Dr. Mohamed Waheed attended the ceremony, while Solih's predecessor Abdulla Yameen chose to boycott it.
Former Parliament Speaker Abdulla Maseeh, Members of Parliament as well as senior figures of political parties had also taken part in the inauguration ceremony.
While many high-ranking officials as well as business tycoons joined the swearing-in ceremony, this ceremony is notably one in which the most number of citizens as well as foreign delegates had joined in Maldives history.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also attended the ceremony, having arrived in the Maldives earlier on Saturday. This is his maiden voyage to Maldives, since assuming office in 2014.
