Vice President-elect Faisal Naseem has on Thursday visited privately-run television station RaajjeTV, where he met with the station’s management and staff.
During his visit, Naseem commended RaajjeTV’s resilient work, describing it as 'exemplary' despite being subject to numerous challenges.
On Thursday afternoon, Naseem stressed that no other media station has faced oppression as much as RaajjeTV, going on to assert that despite these oppressions, the station has proven itself as an example to other media stations.
As such, the Vice President-elect highlighted the arson attack, the multiple hefty fines imposed, threats received by employees as well as other such baseless accusations against the station as some of the challenges faced by the station over the years.
While managing director Ahmed Saleem revealed that the station intends to donate the MVR 3.7 million, if reimbursed, to people with stations needs, Naseem highlighted that RaajjeTV has always worked for the people and that this decision is prove of this.
Further noting the responsibilities of the media in bringing back democracy was immense, the Vice President-elect emphasized that theresponsibilities of media will further grow with the incoming government.
In mid October, President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had also visited the station, his first visit to a media outlet since winning his bid for presidency in the September polls.
