A total of MVR 6.6 billion has been allocated for public service investment programs (PSIP) in the proposed state budget for 2019.
PSIPs account for developing infrastructure, health, docking and shipping, as well as water and sanitation facilities across the country.
The government has proposed to spend a total of 2.7 billion on developing docking facilities, with 92 such projects planned for in the out lying islands.
MVR 1.3 billion is to be spent on water and sanitaion facilites, with 120 such projects planned for 2019. MVR 531 million is to be spent on developing health facilities.
512.9 million is to be spent on environmental adaption projects while 207 million is to be spent on shelter projects.
While 6.6 billion has been allocated for PSIPs in 2019, a total of 7 billion was spent on such projects in 2018. Upto 71 percent of PSIP projects to be spent on next year, are ones that are currently ongoing, the remainder are new projects.
